Head of Private Client Services and Lead Partner - Ellon Office
Brian joined the Firm in 1990 after completing his traineeship and gaining experience as an assistant with other legal firms. He became a Partner in 1992 and has headed up our Ellon office since it opened in 1995.
Brian provides a comprehensive Private client service for his clients including Residential and Commercial sales and Purchases, Conveyancing, Remortgages, Executries, Wills and Succession Planning as well as general private client work. Brian is also able to provide advice on Separation and Divorce.
Lead Partner - Peterhead Office
After reading Greats at Oxford, Jane initially trained as a private banker, dealing exclusively with high net worth clients. She subsequently enjoyed a varied and rewarding career, both in-house and as a consultant, providing strategic management and communications advice, at Board level, to some of the UK’s largest and most high profile financial and professional service sector organisations.
Along the way, Jane obtained her qualifications in English Law and International Law, specialising in banking and trade finance. She has a Masters Degree in Security & Risk Management and was formerly an Associate Tutor at the University of Leicester, supervising graduate students in related fields of study.
Jane was admitted as a Scottish solicitor in 2011 and joined Gray & Gray in 2014. She is an experienced and respected Court practitioner, dealing with criminal, civil and family cases. Jane now oversees the work of our Peterhead office and uses her significant commercial awareness to assist both private and corporate clients on a diverse range of legal issues. She has, however, retained a specialist interest in Child Law and regularly appears as a legal representative at Children’s Hearings. Jane is one of only a handful of solicitors in the North-East who can act as a Children’s Duty Solicitor.
Head of Court Department
John is a former pupil of Ellon Academy and honours graduate from the University of Aberdeen and has now been in private practice as a court solicitor for in excess of 24 years.
John commenced his court experience in Edinburgh in 1995 working for MacRoberts, McKay & Norwell and Nigel Beaumont and Co and in 1999 he formed the firm of Adam Bevan & Co, based in Leith. John moved back to the north east of Scotland in 2002 and was appointed as a partner at Stewart & Watson, Peterhead until April 2007 when he formed the firm of Adam Legal LLP based in Buchanhaven, Peterhead. John has conducted hundreds of summary criminal trials in the Sheriff and JP Courts and numerous Jury trials.
John also specialises in all aspects of family law including divorce, residence and contact and he also deals with residential house purchases and sales.
In 2012 John was delighted to be appointed as staff at the University of Aberdeen, taking up the position of Senior Tutor in Advanced Criminal Litigation, a post he still holds today.
A keen footballer in his younger years John has recently completed the Children's Award, a coaching qualification with the Scottish Football Association and is also a former licensed football scout for Aberdeen Football Club.
Stuart graduated from Dundee University in 1989 with an Honours degree in Law. From that time until 1992 he worked in Perth, predominantly in conveyancing. He began working in Peterhead initially as a general court assistant for Stewart & Watson and then Masson & Glennie. In 1997 he was involved in the establishment of the criminal defence firm of John MacRitchie & Co. SSC. Since December 1999 Stuart has been the principal in his own firm based in Kirk Street, Peterhead.
During the past 30 years Stuart has built up an enormous bank of experience in all areas of law. Latterly his focus has been the criminal courts where he has appeared across Scotland in cases ranging from minor road traffic matters to murder. His reputation rests on his personable manner, commitment and professionalism.
Morag is a Partner / Member in the Court Department, based at our Peterhead office. She joined the firm in 2018. Morag has extensive experience as a Court solicitor and spent four years living and working on the Island of St Helena, an Overseas Territory of the UK, first as Solicitor General and then as acting Attorney General of Ascension Island, St Helena & Tristan da Cunha.
Morag predominantly works with our Legal Aid client base on Civil Court matters. She can assist clients with a range of matrimonial and family court issues, including Divorce, Separation, Contact and Residence matters. She also manages a general civil litigation caseload and is often instructed by other Firms of solicitors to assist them with cases in Peterhead.
Equally at home in the Criminal Courts, Morag has conducted a wide range of criminal cases in Sheriff Courts across the North of Scotland and the Islands. She regularly instructs Counsel in high profile cases in the High Court of Justiciary.
Morag is registered to provide Children’s Legal Aid and appears regularly for clients at Children’s Hearings in both Aberdeen City and the Shire. She also has a specialist interest in cases arising out of the circumstances of domestic abuse.
NON-SOLICITOR LEGAL CONSULTANT
Chris commenced his legal career with the Firm as an apprentice solicitor in August 1979. He became a Partner in the Firm in 1984 and has seen the changing face of the legal system throughout that time and retired as a solicitor at the end of October 2017.
Chris previously specialised in all aspects of Private client work. Areas of work include, Residential Property sales, Purchases and Remortgages, Commercial and Development Property sales, Securities, Leasing, Company and Partnerships, Wills, Succession Planning, Powers of Attorney under Adults with Incapacity Act, Executries and Employment Law.
Chris remains an important part of the Gray & Gray team providing a valuable ‘signposting’ role to clients and guidance to other members of staff
Susan joined Gray & Gray in 2013 and has an extensive local knowledge of the area, having moved from Glasgow over 40 years ago and worked in a number of local businesses.
Handling all aspects of residential sales, from valuations to negotiating sales in our Peterhead and Ellon offices.
Susan can offer a comprehensive service supporting all your property needs with a personal touch.
Originally from Dundee, Sarah gained her legal qualifications from the University of Aberdeen. After spending two years working with a medium sized firm in Edinburgh, Sarah commenced her traineeship with a local Peterhead firm before joining Gray & Gray in April 2016.
Sarah is based in our Peterhead office within the Court Department and specialises in matrimonial and family law. She advises clients on matters including Separation, Cohabitation, Divorce, Child Contact and Residence Issues, Adoption and Drafting Minutes of Agreement. She also regularly appears in the Sheriff Court. Although Sarah predominantly works with those clients who pay privately for our services, she is also able to represent those clients who require Legal Aid.
PRIVATE CLIENT TEAM
Alan is a solicitor based in our Ellon Office. Having gained his legal qualifications from Robert Gordon University, Alan worked with an Aberdeen-based firm prior to joining Gray and Gray as a solicitor in 2017.
Alan can assist our clients in a wide range of private client work including residential conveyancing, preparation of Wills, Power of Attorneys and executory work.
PRIVATE CLIENT TEAM
Originally from Banchory, Stephen is a trainee solicitor based in our Ellon Office. Having gained his legal qualifications from Robert Gordon University, Stephen joined Gray and Gray to start his Traineeship in January 2020.
Stephen assists our qualified staff in the Private Client team in dealing with residential conveyancing, the preparation of Wills, Power of Attorneys and executory work.
