Our Court Department is managed by our Partners, Jane Dickers and Andrew Ormiston who are assisted by our Family Law specialist, Sarah McPherson. Between them, they have a wealth of experience in all court related matters. Work is conducted on a private client basis and a full legal aid service is available. Our solicitors provide a professional and approachable service using traditional and modern working practices. We can assist with a wide range of legal proceedings, including:-

Jane Dickers

Jane is a Partner / Member in the Court Department, based at our Peterhead office. She joined the firm as an Associate in April 2014, having previously practised as a partner in an Aberdeen-based firm. She qualified as a Scottish solicitor in 2011.

Jane predominantly works with our Legal Aid client base. She has conducted a wide range of criminal cases in Sheriff Courts across the North of Scotland and the Islands. She regularly instructs Counsel in high profile cases in the High Court of Justiciary.

Equally at home in the civil courts, Jane can assist clients with a range of matrimonial and family court issues, including divorce, separation, contact and residence matters. She also manages a general civil litigation caseload and is often instructed by other Firms of solicitors to assist them with cases in Peterhead.

Jane is registered to provide Children’s Legal Aid and appears regularly for clients at Children’s Hearings in both Aberdeen City and the Shire. She is one of only a handful of solicitors in the North-East who can act as a Children’s Duty Solicitor.

Andrew Ormiston

Andrew began his legal career with the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service. After successfully completing his traineeship with the Service he was commissioned as a Procurator Fiscal Depute for the Sheriffdom of Grampian, Highland and Islands. During his time with COPFS Andrew was assigned to assist the Principal Advocate Depute and gained experience preparing criminal cases at the highest level. Andrew thereafter entered private practice as a specialist criminal defence lawyer and joined Gray & Gray as an Associate in January 2016. Andrew was assumed as a Partner / Member in November 2016.

Andrew manages a busy criminal caseload, dealing with both Summary and Solemn cases. He also has expertise in human rights issues and parole matters. In addition Andrew can provide help and advice in respect of legal issues relating to mental health.

Andrew will be assisting our other Court practitioners in the Civil and Family Courts. He is able to represent both those clients who require Legal Aid and those who pay privately for our services.

Sarah McPherson

Originally from Dundee, Sarah gained her legal qualifications from the University of Aberdeen. After spending two years working with a medium sized firm in Edinburgh, Sarah commenced her traineeship with a local Peterhead firm before joining Gray & Gray in April 2016.

Sarah is based in our Peterhead office within the Court Department and specialises in matrimonial and family law. She advises clients on matters including Separation, Cohabitation, Divorce, Child Contact and Residence Issues, Adoption and Drafting Minutes of Agreement. She also regularly appears in the Sheriff Court. Although Sarah predominantly works with those clients who pay privately for our services, she is also able to represent those clients who require Legal Aid.
